SPRINGFIELD

Springfield covers 600 hectares of predominantly steep grazing country at the southern end of the Barossa Valley with annual average rainfall of 700mm. 300 Angus cows are joined annually to Angus bulls producing a weaner for sale into the domestic livestock market. Heifers are retained to maintain a self-replacing herd. Low stress stock handling techniques are employed both in the cattle yard and on horseback or gator/ motorbike when moving stock. 50 hectares of oats, barley, rye and clover are also grown and cropped for silage and hay production to keep the stock fed through the lean winter months. The farm is competently managed by Shannon Kunst with regular assistance from Skye MacLachlan and family.
